At the Drive-In was formed in early 1994 in their hometown of El Paso, Texas. After the release of their first EP they briefly toured Texas then released a second EP. The band then toured around the western United States performing in small clubs. After playing in Los Angeles, they caught the eye of Flipside Records and released their first full-length album entitled Acrobatic Tenement on August 18,1996. They released several other CD's but didn't hit it big until September 12, 2000 when they released Relationship of Command, which had the radio hit "One Armed Scissor". At the Drive-In preformed "One Armed Scissor" on Late Night with Conan O'Brian and The Late Show with David Letterman. Spin Magazine named Relationship of Command as one of the top 10 albums of that year. After a world tour and at the peak of their popularity, At the Drive-In split up and referred to the break-up as an "indefinite hiatus." The band members moved on to form two new bands, The Mars Volta and Sparta.
